VAG AdBlue Delete - EDC17C46, EDC17CP14, EDC17CP20
VAG Group AdBlue/SCR Technology
The Volkswagen Group began rolling out AdBlue/SCR systems from 2014 onwards to meet Euro 6 standards. Unlike some competitors who relied solely on EGR and DPF, VAG chose SCR as a key part of their emissions strategy. This means millions of VW, Audi, Skoda, and SEAT vehicles now have complex AdBlue systems that require maintenance and can cause expensive failures.
ECU Types and Vehicles
- EDC17C46 - VW Golf 7 1.6 TDI (Euro 6 with SCR), VW Passat B8 1.6 TDI, Audi A3 8V 1.6 TDI, Skoda Octavia III 1.6 TDI (DGTE/DDYA engine)
- EDC17CP14 - VW Passat B7 2.0 TDI (late models with SCR), Audi A4 B8 2.0 TDI, Audi A5 2.0 TDI (CJCA/CAGA engine with SCR)
- EDC17CP20 - VW Passat CC 2.0 TDI, Audi A4/A5/A6 2.0 TDI (2012-2015 with SCR), Audi Q5 2.0 TDI
VAG AdBlue System Issues
VAG vehicles with AdBlue commonly suffer from NOx sensor failures, AdBlue tank heater malfunctions, dosing module crystallization, and the infamous "AdBlue: No restart possible in XXX km" warning. The system uses two NOx sensors (upstream and downstream), both prone to failure at 600-800 EUR each. The dosing module and tank assembly can cost 1,500+ EUR to replace.
AdBlue Delete Process
VAG AdBlue removal covers all aspects of the SCR system:
- NOx sensor monitoring disabled (both pre and post-catalyst)
- SCR dosing control and injection logic removed
- Catalyst efficiency calculation suspended
- Tank level, temperature, and quality monitoring bypassed
- Immobilization countdown completely eliminated
- All SCR-related DTCs removed
Cost Savings
A typical VAG AdBlue system repair costs 1,500-3,000 EUR at a dealer. AdBlue delete permanently eliminates these costs while also saving the ongoing expense of AdBlue fluid (approximately 100-200 EUR per year depending on driving patterns).
