Renault/Nissan EGR Solutions - SID305, SID306, SID307
Renault-Nissan Alliance Diesel EGR
The Renault-Nissan alliance shares diesel engine platforms across both brands. The popular 1.5 dCi (K9K), 1.6 dCi (R9M), and 2.0 dCi (M9R) engines all use Continental SID ECU families and share common EGR design weaknesses.
ECU and Vehicle Applications
- Continental SID305 - Renault Clio IV 1.5 dCi, Renault Captur 1.5 dCi, Nissan Micra 1.5 dCi, Dacia Duster 1.5 dCi (K9K Gen5)
- Continental SID306 - Renault Megane IV 1.5 dCi, Renault Kadjar 1.5 dCi, Nissan Qashqai J11 1.5 dCi (K9K Gen6, Euro 6)
- Continental SID307 - Renault Trafic III 1.6 dCi, Nissan NV300 1.6 dCi, Renault Megane IV 1.6 dCi, Nissan Qashqai 1.6 dCi (R9M engine)
EGR Problems in Renault-Nissan Diesels
The K9K and R9M engines are notorious for EGR-related issues. The EGR valve carbon buildup causes poor running, engine hesitation, and power loss. On the 1.6 dCi (R9M) engine, the EGR system is especially problematic - the cooler can fail internally, and the valve solenoid is prone to electrical faults. The Renault Trafic 1.6 dCi is one of the most common vehicles requiring EGR attention.
Solution Details
Continental SID ECUs require specific tools and protocols for modification:
- SID305: OBD read/write supported, straightforward EGR disable
- SID306: OBD accessible with correct protocol, EGR and associated sensors modified
- SID307: Both OBD and bench mode supported, comprehensive EGR system deactivation
Improvements After EGR Off
Renault and Nissan owners report cleaner running engines, better fuel economy (particularly in city driving where EGR flow is highest), elimination of hesitation during acceleration, and significantly reduced maintenance costs. The K9K engine in particular transforms from a troubled unit to a reliable workhorse once the EGR is properly disabled.
