BMW AdBlue Off - EDC17C41, EDC17CP45, MDG1_MD1CP002
BMW AdBlue/SCR System
BMW introduced AdBlue (known as BMW BluePerformance) across their diesel range starting with the N57 engine in the 5/7 Series and gradually extending to all diesel models. The system uses a urea injection module, dual NOx sensors, and a combined SCR/DPF catalytic converter on newer models.
ECU Types and Applications
- EDC17C41 - BMW F10 525d/530d/535d, F01 730d/740d, F15 X5 30d/40d (N57 engine, early AdBlue models)
- EDC17CP45 - BMW F10 LCI 520d/525d/530d, F30 320d/325d (N47/N57 with AdBlue, 2014-2017)
- MDG1_MD1CP002 (MDG1) - BMW G20 318d/320d, G30 520d/530d, G01 X3 20d/30d, G05 X5 25d/30d (B47/B57 engine, 2019+)
BMW AdBlue System Failures
BMW AdBlue systems are complex and expensive to repair. Common failures include NOx sensor malfunction (500-800 EUR per sensor), SCR catalyst efficiency below threshold, AdBlue dosing module failure (1,000+ EUR), tank heater malfunction in cold climates, and quality sensor errors even with correct AdBlue fluid. The dreaded "Emissions system malfunction - max speed 60 mph" message can appear without warning.
Solution Process
BMW AdBlue removal requires expertise with both older EDC17 and newer MD1 platforms:
- EDC17C41/EDC17CP45: OBD-based solution, SCR system fully deactivated including NOx sensor monitoring, dosing control, and catalyst efficiency tracking
- MDG1_MD1CP002: Requires advanced access methods, comprehensive SCR/AdBlue system disable including the integrated DPF/SCR unit monitoring
Benefits
BMW owners eliminate the risk of limp mode, save on expensive component replacements, remove the need to refill AdBlue tanks, and enjoy unrestricted driving without SCR system warnings.
